PROVIDENCE, RI. (August 29, 2007) The Victims of Crime Helpline is seeking volunteers to help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes.  Volunteers will work with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes at hospitals and victims of sexual assault at police stations throughout the state to offer support, information, referrals, and safety planning.

The next training session is scheduled to begin September 19 and will run through October 11. Trainings are held weeknights from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Day One for a total of 30 hours. Meals will be provided.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and complete a 31-hour training program. While all volunteers are needed, bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Volunteers can work a variety of flexible shifts.

To sign up, or for more information, contact Susan Black Hughes, at Day One (formerly the Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center) 421-4100 ext. 146 or shughes@dayoneri.org.

The Victims of Crime Helpline is a partnership between Day One and the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (on behalf of the six domestic violence agencies of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence).
