NEW VOLUNTEERS GRADUATE FROM TRAINING PROGRAM For Immediate Release: October 15, 2007
Participants were trained to respond to requests for assistance from callers; meeting survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and hate crimes directly in hospitals and police stations. Advocates provide crisis intervention, support, and referrals to victims. Last year, 280 victims received personal support from an advocate at a hospital or police station in Rhode Island. Currently, 50 volunteers are available to provide assistance. The Victims of Crime Helpline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week as a collaborative effort between Day One, the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center, and the member agencies of the RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Helpline is available to victims, their friends and families, as well as to professionals and other people concerned about the impact of crime on individuals and the community. If you need assistance, call the Helpline at 800-494-8100. About Day One
