Law Enforcement Advocates

 

A law enforcement advocate is an advocate to help victims of sexual assault navigate through the criminal justice process. They explain the victims’ rights, provide assistance throughout criminal proceedings, assist in developing safety plans, and accompany victims to police interviews, court proceedings and hospital visits. There are Law Enforcement Advocates throughout the State of Rhode Island including:

The Victim Services Unit provides an array of services, (including advocates) to felony crime victims and their families and informs victims of their rights as guaranteed under the Rhode Island Constitution and the Victim’s Bill of Rights.

The R.I. Department of Health is the location of Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline, where victims can report sexual assaults committed by physicians.

 

Crime Victim Compensation Fund

The Fund provides financial compensation to crime victims for such expenses as medical bills, loss of earnings and funeral expenses, up to $25,000.
